The wonderful world of Adam
Artist Adam Shecter came to THE LOOK’s attention a few years back via the fantastic films he created for a number of performers and musicians, notably Antony & The Johnsons.
Like Barney Bubbles and Peter Saville before him, Shecter may not work directly in fashion, yet his art and design contribute vital visual elements to music.

“I’m working more in gallery settings now, so my animation, installations and performance are not so directly related to music video but nevertheless have elements of music,” Shecter says.

“Making the pins and shirts comes from my love of the intersections of art and mass culture, though these days I think it’s more of a blur than a distinction.”

Monster is an edition of 500 posters created from a frame grab taken from the installation Monster And Jewels while Blue Beard Boys is a hand-drawn sharpie illustration on white t-shirt.

For his Belmondo pin Shecter “took out Jean Seberg from the scene in Breathless and added the black triangle as a new gay logo”.

Shecter is currently engaged in his animated sketchbook and diary BCAST at Omaha’s Bemis Center. The first manifestation of this community television project - BCAST 1 - premiered in May.
With a forthcoming solo show at Eleven Rivington from Sept 3 to Oct 4, Shecter is also participating in a group event at Space 414 in Red Hook, Brooklyn. In Europe, meanwhile, he is represented in the exhibition Learn To Read Art: A History Of Printed Matter at Badischer Kunstverein in Karlsruhe, Germany until Sept 6. His work is available via Eleven Rivington while Like Ghosts may be purchased here.

I remember you sending me the “Hope There’s Someone” animation a couple of years ago and loving it…and being reduced to tears!!! Strangely affecting….they’re perfect, though not an obvious choice for the songs..
